Parador Cardona

Project: Parador de Cardona

Location: Cardona, Catalunya. Spain.

Date: 2026

Elements: Rooms and common areas

On a hill in the Cardoner valley, in the Catalan region of Bages, stands the medieval fortress of Cardona, which has commanded the landscape for more than eleven centuries. Its walled enclosure, dating back to the 9th century, holds some of the finest examples of Catalan Romanesque architecture: the Collegiate Church of Sant Vicenç, an 11th-century church almost as tall as a cathedral, and the Minyona Tower, the setting for one of the country’s most famous ghost legends.

Originally built to watch over one of Europe’s most important potash salt mines, the complex is now home to the Parador de Cardona. Sleeping within its walls is an experience in itself, and keeping that experience alive means renewing its furnishings with the same care that goes into preserving the buildings.

Furniture for landmark buildings: history, brought up to date

At Bagon Muebles we make furniture for all kinds of hotels, but some projects carry special meaning. Taking part in the renovation of a castle, a palace or a historic house turned hotel, as in the case of the Parador de Cardona, means becoming part of that building’s story. Every piece that leaves our workshop in Yecla will spend years in the same rooms where travellers stay and where the history of the place is told.

That privilege brings great responsibility. In Cardona we manufactured desks with minibars for the guest rooms and auxiliary furniture for the restaurant. These pieces had to be durable and serve guests and Paradores staff for many years, while blending in naturally among walls that are centuries old.

How we work: the process, step by step

Every hotel project follows a path whose goal is to create pieces as faithful as possible to the architect’s or designer’s proposal. To achieve that, our estimating team gets to work from the moment we receive the brief.

A quote faithful to the design

The client comes to Bagon Muebles with a design proposal and a list of requested materials or finishes. At this stage the rule is always to respect the original design as far as possible. This is possible thanks to our advanced technology and because we cover all types of materials and processes, from cutting and varnishing wood boards to working stone for countertops, metal elements, glass and upholstery.

If our experience tells us that improvements are possible, we put forward a counterproposal, which the client must always approve. The final word is theirs, but we firmly believe a manufacturer has a duty to contribute judgement, not just execution.

End-to-end manufacturing

Once the design is closed, we move on to production. Every piece is made with quality control at every stage, because in a historic building the walls are rarely straight and the real dimensions don’t always match the drawings. Anticipating these quirks makes the difference between a piece that fits and one that forces improvisation on site.

Specialist transport

It is a phase that doesn’t get much attention, but for us it is key. When moving heavy, delicate or large pieces, professional handling is not an option to consider but the only possible way.

That’s why we handle transport ourselves, rather than leaving it to third parties who may not appreciate what they are carrying or how it should be unloaded. This way we ensure each piece reaches its destination in perfect condition, exactly as it left the factory.

Installation coordinated with hotel life

The daily life of a hotel doesn’t always stop during a renovation. Sometimes only some floors are closed, or limited areas are kept open for guests. That makes it essential to meet delivery dates, respect hours that protect guests’ rest, and work cleanly without dirtying the rest of the building.

Our in-house installation team knows the rhythms of different types of hotels and coordinates with management to work as efficiently as possible.

A flawless finish

The last step is the most visible: we review every piece with the client once it is installed to certify that the finish is impeccable. Our commitment is clear: there is no room for “almost perfect”.

Six Paradores, one commitment

Landmark projects demand total commitment and the highest quality. That philosophy has led us to manufacture furniture for six Paradores:

Each one has its own history, its own walls and its own demands, and in all of them the goal has been the same: for the furniture to add to the building without taking away from it.
