Parador Jarandilla de la Vera

Proyecto: Parador de Jarandilla de la Vera

Location: Jarandilla de la Vera. Spain.

Date: 2026

Elements: Rooms and common areas

In the Vera valley, at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos and between the Tiétar and Jerte river gorges, stands the castle-palace of the Counts of Oropesa. Construction began in the mid-15th century, when Jarandilla became part of the powerful County of Oropesa. It had a dual purpose: a fortress to defend the estate and a palace where the family lived, with towers, walls, a moat and a parade ground that survive to this day.

Its most famous moment came in the 16th century. After abdicating, Emperor Charles V stayed in this castle from November 1556 to February 1557, while work was being completed on his retreat at the nearby Monastery of Yuste. Over the centuries the building was modified, especially after the French troops’ looting in 1808. In 1966 it became a Parador de Turismo, a use it keeps today and which makes it one of the few Spanish castles where you can stay overnight.

FFurnishing the public areas: the big challenge

On this project we worked on a large part of the public areas, and that is very different from working on guest rooms. Here the furniture creates the first impression and is the stage where hotel life unfolds, used at all hours by guests, staff and visitors.

In Jarandilla we manufactured pieces for the restaurant, the reception and the back office:

  • Restaurant: a screen with wallpaper matching a shelving unit with a wallpapered back panel, which separates kitchen and dining room while providing storage and work surface; a back-bar unit; the refurbishment and panelling of the existing bar; and a POS unit.
  • Reception: the reception desk, which welcomes everyone who walks through the castle door.
  • Back office: storage units, less visible but essential to daily operations.
  • Fan-coil covers: several pieces that conceal air conditioning units and radiators while doubling as bench seating or chests of drawers.

Singular spaces, stunning sensations

What sets furniture for hotel public areas apart is that every piece has to solve three things at once. It must be beautiful, because it lives alongside walls and rooms that are centuries old. It must be functional, because it is used intensively. And it must handle the technical side invisibly: hiding installations, making use of awkward corners and adapting to walls that are rarely straight. A screen that divides and stores, or a fan-coil cover that is also a bench, are good examples of custom hotel furniture designed to serve several purposes.

Special mention goes to the 4.8-metre upholstered bench seat, the most spectacular piece in the project. A length like this poses challenges in manufacturing, transport and installation: you need visual continuity, flawless upholstery and a sturdy structure that stands up to daily use. Seeing it installed, running from one end of the space to the other, is one of the greatest satisfactions of the project.

In the guest rooms: desks and radiator covers

The refurbishment also extended to the guest rooms, where we made desks with and without minibars, depending on the needs of each room, as well as radiator covers. These pieces are more discreet than those in the public areas, but they were made to the same exacting standard of finish and fit.

A castle with history, furniture with craftsmanship

Furnishing a place where an emperor once stayed leaves no room for improvisation. That is why every element has been designed and made to measure, so that it accompanies the building without taking away from it.

Jarandilla de la Vera joins other Paradores we have worked on, including Santillana Gil Blas, Altamira and Cardona, as well as Lerma and Sigüenza.

Six Paradores, one commitment

Landmark projects demand total commitment and the highest quality. That philosophy has led us to manufacture furniture for six Paradores across Spain:

  • Parador de Jarandilla de la Vera
  • Parador de Santillana Gil Blas (read the project)
  • Parador de Santillana Altamira (read the project)
  • Parador de Lerma
  • Parador de Sigüenza
  • Parador de Cardona

Each has its own history, its own walls and its own demands, and in all of them the goal has been the same: for the furniture to add to the building without taking away from it.
